Bóbrka
Bóbrka is a village located in the Podkarpackie Province, in the Krosno county, in the Chorkówka commune in a very picturesque area, densely surrounded by a forest.
The oldest crude oil mine in the world was established in Bóbrka. Its founders were Ignacy Łukasiewicz, Tytus Trzecieski and Karol Klobassa-Zrencki. In 1854 they began extracting oil.
Today there is the Museum of Oil and Gas Industry named after Ignacy Łukasiewicz. You can admire well-preserved, still operating, 19th-century Franek and Janina excavations, the first oil wells in the beautiful scenery of Bóbrka forest. The museum was established in 1961 and covers an area of approximately 20 hectares. You can also see historic buildings from the beginnings of the mine, among them, the former mine administration building from 1865 in the open-air museum. In the so-called house of Ignacy Łukasiewicz, a pharmacy exhibition and a collection of kerosene lamps were arranged. There are also shows and radio plays devoted to the history of the discovery of kerosene. Nearby, there is an obelisk founded in 1872 by Łukasiewicz himself. The museum collection also includes unique devices related to oil, refining and gas industries.
Trivia
After the death of the mine director Adolf Jabłoński in 1887, the management of the Bóbrka mine was taken over by a January insurgent - engineer Zenon Suszycki. He popularized the Canadian drilling method at the Bóbrka mine. He was one of the first to implement the method of closing the depths of water with hermetic pipes. He built the first pipeline to the railway station in Krosno, which pumped crude oil from the Bóbrka, Wietrzno and Równe mines. Łukasiewicz was also the founder of school in Bóbrka - currently renovated as a private house, in keeping with its original appearance. The Museum of the Oil Mine in Bóbrka, which was established as the first one in the world, is trying to be signed on the UNESCO list.
