In the footsteps of Łukasiewicz- Chorkówka
Chorkówka
The village of Chorkówka is located in the Podkarpackie Province, in the Krosno county. It is the residence of the Chorkówka commune.
In 1856, Ignacy Łukasiewicz and his wife Honorata bought a farm in Chorkówka. In the same year, he launched his own refinery in Chorkówka, at the same time giving a place and time to implement very progressive technical concepts. A. Guabauer, an architect from Kraków, built a manor house for Łukasiewicz , which became both a meeting place for the oil company and a shelter for participants of the January Uprising. In 1876, the wife of the oil industry pioneer Honorata Łukasiewicz founded a lace makers school, and he himself opened a one-class village school in the court outbuilding. In addition, he built a chapel in Chorkówka and founded a communal loan fund. After the death of Ignacy Łukasiewicz in 1882, the property in Chorkówka was bought by Seweryn Stawiarski from Jedlicze. The refinery burnt down in 1904. After World War II, the Łukasiewicz manor house was destroyed.
