In the footsteps of Łukasiewicz- Polanka
Polanka
Until 1968, Polanka was a village, then it became part of the city of Krosno, becoming one of its districts in the south-west part of the city.
From 1803, Polanka was owned by the Trzecieski family. Jan Michał Trzecieski renovated one of its most important buildings - the Polanka Palace. Tytus Trzecieski lived there, and in 1854 he established the world's first oil company together with Ignacy Łukasiewicz. In 1887, Polanka passed into the possession of the Klobbasa - Zrencki family. They built a neo-gothic palace on the site of an earlier manor house. Karol Wiktor Klobassa- Zrencki was the director of the Galician Carpathian Oil Joint Stock Society, formerly Bergheim & Mac Garvey. When the company fell into financial difficulties, the owner decided to sell the Polanka Palace to the "Dąbrowa" Oil Concern, which was its owner until 1928, then "Dąbrowa" became the property of the "Małopolska" concern, making the Palace the residence of the largest kerosene concern in interwar Poland . Before World War II, the palace was transferred to the war fund, and in 1956 it was taken over by Krosno Glass Factory. Today, the interior of the palace houses a hotel and a restaurant, the walls of which are decorated with photographs referring to the old-time oil industry.
Trivia
In 1928, priest Stanisław Decowski built the Church of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Queen of Poland, in Polanka, which is located at Decowski Street 2. The oil concern "Małopolska" contributed to the construction of the church, covering a significant part of the construction costs.
