In the footsteps of Łukasiewicz- Sanok
Sanok
Sanok, located in the San valley, is a county town in the Podkarpackie Province. It is also the residence of the Sanok rural commune, but it does not belong to it.
Movie about Sanok oil heritage.
The Sanok county is one of the oldest oil mining centres. In the 19th century, crude oil was discovered in Sanok. In 1845, a cauldron workshop was established, which was later transformed into a large industrial plant, and then into a factory. It produced drilling tools for the oil industry, crude oil tanks, as well as structures for railway bridges, trams and narrow-gauge rail cars.
In 2004, the oil sector was created at the Museum of Folk Architecture located at 3 Rybicki Street in Sanok. The exhibition, with the help of collected devices and tools from closed crude oil mines, as well as replicas of objects that no longer exist, shows the history of oil extraction in the Podkarpackie region from the mid-nineteenth century to the present day. You can see objects such as drilling towers, pump jacks, lifts or oil tanks in the museum.
