In the footsteps of Łukasiewicz- Węglówka
Węglówka
Located in the Czarny Potok valley, surrounded by the hills of the Strzyżowsko-Dynowskie Foothills, the village of Węglówka belongs administratively to the Podkarpackie Province, the Krosno county, the Korczyna Commune.
Węglówka has long been known for its crude oil, which was used to illuminate Krosno in the 16th century. In the years 1886-1887, a group of Englishmen led by geologist Nelson Keith carried out work on digging wells in places where oil flowed out to the surface. Extraction of crude oil on a large scale began in 1888, when the "Granat" borehole was discovered . In 1928, the "Małopolska" Oil Company took over all the mines operating in Węglówka at that time. In 1955, a geological survey project for the Węglówka regions to the west of the existing mine was developed. A year later, an industrial flow of oil was obtained from the lower levels of the layers, which resulted in building another mine.
The mines were first divided into two separate ones: Węglówka I and Węglówka II, but with time, when there was less and less crude oil, they were combined into one. The mine was expanded after World War II, and it is still the largest and most efficient one in the Podkarpackie region. We can see the area of the mine on the way to Węglówka.
